Mar Hall Appoints Andy Roger as Resort Director Ahead of Landmark Reopening

We’re delighted to welcome Andy Roger to the Mar Hall family as our new Resort Director. Andy joins us with a wealth of experience, a deep connection to Scotland, and a genuine passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Andy Roger as Resort Director at Mar Hall. As we prepare to unveil our £20 million renovation this spring 2025, Andy’s arrival marks an exciting new chapter in our journey. With extensive experience in leading and repositioning heritage properties, Andy will oversee the reopening and play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of growth at Mar Hall.

Set within 240 acres on the banks of the River Clyde, Mar Hall is being reimagined as one of Scotland’s leading luxury resorts, combining timeless elegance with exceptional service and a renewed commitment to people, place, and purpose.

Originally from Glasgow, Andy brings with him decades of leadership in the hospitality sector. Known for cultivating high-performing teams and embedding values-led culture, his vision aligns perfectly with the future of Mar Hall.

“I’m thrilled to begin this new chapter with Mar Hall,” says Andy. “Returning to a more intimate resort setting is a welcome shift—it takes me back to the essence of hospitality: genuine, personal connections with both the team and our guests. Mar Hall has incredible advantages as a country estate—close to Glasgow, yet a gateway to the Highlands. I’m looking forward to being part of its continued evolution.”

Andy is also a passionate advocate for hospitality in Scotland, with long-standing involvement in organisations such as HIT Scotland, Apprenticeships in Hospitality Scotland, and the Maggie’s Cancer Care Glasgow Fundraising Board.

His appointment comes at a transformative time for the resort, with investment spanning every area, from bedrooms and event spaces to future plans for a new Clubhouse, Spa, and 48 woodland lodges.

With Andy leading the way, we look forward to a bold new era at Mar Hall, defined by excellence, warmth, and innovation.

Woven quietly into the architecture of Mar Hall is a symbol, a soft, clover-like shape known as the quatrefoil. At once familiar and timeless, it speaks to a deeper story embedded in the fabric of the estate. Its roots lie in the Gothic Revival, a movement that swept across Britain in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, an era that embraced a return to artistry, grandeur, and thoughtful design. It was a time when buildings told stories, every arch held intention, and every ornament was a language of its own. Around 1828, as Mar Hall’s story began, the quatrefoil appeared throughout the estate, from carved stone façades to vaulted ceilings, decorative plasterwork, and intricate wooden panelling. At Mar Hall, the quatrefoil is more than decoration. It’s a thread connecting past to present, tradition to transformation. In the early 19th century, Major General Robert Walter Stuart, the 11th Lord Blantyre, returned from his travels across Europe and Egypt with a vision - not for a monument, but for a home. A place where the spirit of adventure met the comforts of family. On the banks of the Clyde in 1828, that dream began to take shape. With the renowned architect Sir Robert Smirke, whose hand shaped icons like the British Museum, Mar Hall was born, not just a house, but a sanctuary of hospitality and belonging. Though Lord Blantyre never saw it finished, his wife, Lady Blantyre, took the reins. She shaped the interiors, nurtured the gardens, and filled its rooms with warmth and life. For over 30 years, she ensured Mar Hall became more than architecture, it became home. As time went on, Mar Hall became a gathering place for Scotland’s elite, hosting celebrations and grand events. During wartime, its doors opened once again, this time as a hospital, providing care and solace within its magnificent walls. Reopening this spring, Mar Hall enters a new chapter. A £20 million restoration has brought new life to this beloved estate, its history honoured, its spirit revived. This is more than a return to splendour. It’s a return to heart. Today, Mar Hall stands once again as a house that welcomes you home.
